(Daily News, Reporter Liu Ziyu) On November 17, a shipment of macadamia nuts weighing 32 tonnes, produced in Myanmar, successfully cleared customs at the Mengding Qingshuihe Port. This marks the first import of this product category through the port since Myanmar-grown macadamias officially gained quarantine access this past September.
"Macadamia nuts are rich in nutritional value and have a delicious, crispy texture. Demand for them in the domestic snack food and baking ingredients market continues to grow," said Li Fuqiang, the person in charge of Maosen Import and Export Co., Ltd., the company handling this import. Due to climatic differences, the harvesting season in Myanmar complements China's domestic season. Importing nuts from Myanmar helps companies diversify their supply channels and extends the raw material supply window for processing factories. "The successful completion of this order boosts our confidence to continue expanding imports of high-quality agricultural and food products from neighbouring countries via the Mengding Qingshuihe Port. Our company currently has ample orders and plans further imports of Myanmar macadamias this year to meet demand in the bustling domestic year-end consumer market."
According to reports, in recent years, the Mengding Qingshuihe Port has become an increasingly convenient channel for distinctive agricultural and food products from neighbouring countries to enter the Chinese market, leveraging its unique geographical advantages and continuously optimised customs clearance environment. Statistics from Mengding Customs show that in the first 10 months of this year, the port imported 403,000 tonnes of agricultural and food products, with a value of 410 million Chinese Yuan (CNY), representing year-on-year increases of 86.6% and 195.7% respectively.
